Colchester University Hospital Trust is a relatively new client that made contact following a recommendation.
The brief was for a set of 18 portraits to feature in a new campaign focussing on staff across all wards and departments, emphasising their close relationship with the local community.
It was a challenging commission as often I would have to work within a timeframe of just 10/15 minutes for each subject, fitting in to people’s schedules and being careful not to disrupt the care of any patients.
I was under pressure to work quickly and to get the job done on the first attempt as I couldn’t return at a later date.
I had to ensure all the correct elements were in place so as not to waste a moment. Was the background appropriate? Was the lighting correct? Were the staff wearing the right uniform? Did they have the right expression for what we were trying to achieve?
At the same time I also had to be mindful of any sensitivities surrounding patient confidentiality.
Fortunately, I was able to draw on my experiences in the newsroom, working efficiently and effectively to fulfil the client’s expectations and create eye catching images of the highest quality.
